KNOWING KNOWLEDGE

Today I have gone back to reading 'Knowing Knowledge' by George Siemens. At beginning of the Module I read this and have found re-reading it  beneficial as I now have more of an understanding on the theories included and how they have manifested in my practise. In my current AOL of time management during a transition I explored synthesising connectivism has helped manage my time.  During my transition from Dancer to DC I had to prepare how I was going to teach and install a new cast of performers into the productions shows. Establishing time management was vital. Re-reading 'Knowing Knowledge' has elaborated my understanding of Connectivism and prompted new ideas. Siemens, G (2006 pg.30) quotes that a principle of learning is "a network formation process of connecting specialised nodes or information sources". If you need to create a more confined network you can create "a personal network of trusted nodes" (2006, pg. 33). He refers to relying on  ...

ESSAY STRUCTURE AND REFERENCING

Writing Workshop with Peter Thomas- 10/03/21 On Wednesday I attended the Writing Workshop and took some notes which are of value to my essay. As a group we read 'The Welsh Dresser' and analysed its structure, noticing how she explored her own relationships with the object and its history and referenced various researchers. We discussed conventional structures and how academic texts follow structure. Helen addressed that on the BA PP we are encouraged to follow a THEME BASED STRUCUTRE and in Module 1 for a 2,500 word essay a SELECTIVE ESSAY Intro what the topic is, why are you discussing this, is it relevant and interesting how you've carried out research 10% of whole text (250 words approx mod 1) Context define key themes background about examples Analysis Theme A Example Theme B Example  Theme C Example  Focus on case study, pick it apart Conclusion what we found what it means what I've been talking about why interesting and relevant I then booked in for a workshop on...

CROSS CULTURE COMMUNICATION

Where am I at in my study? This week has been centred on gathering all my notes, research and thoughts and understanding which areas I need to focus on. Since starting the module I have read and re-read the handbook SO many times, but after doing it again the past few days I'm honing in on details I perhaps missed the times before! I've prioritised re-reading exerts from books and journals from the Reading List and Bibliography in the Handbook and highlighting more quotes from theorists to add depth to my essay. I'm exploring how 'being adaptable' has existed and still exists in my practise. Adapting to Ship Life was an experience which I had to suddenly adapt to multiple circumstances; a new routine, confined living space, less freedom, resilience to having long distance relationships with my support network. Most importantly I adjusted to all these personal changes whilst travelling. I am going to focus on cross cultural communication and how I adapted my communi...

MARKETING

Marketing is an area of learning I have always invested a lot of time into so why not explore it and further my understanding. By focusing today's study session on this I can already see how this research and reflection will be of benefit my practise and improve my skills in self promotion. The BA PP ACI is about un packing areas which make up our practise, understand how we have learnt from that experience and how we can apply this knowledge. On one of my mind maps on what makes up my practise, an area that branched out was my Career and the different companies I have secured contracts with. I realised that for the majority of them I have secured work via online castings rather than live auditions. This STUNNED me, reflecting on the amount of money spent on travel to London, accommodation and time off work. Should all companies consider an online casting alongside a live audition to save the expense on post graduates? Do we benefit from the healthy competition in the audition r...
