Induction Group Skype Call

After having our first 'Induction' group Skype session with a mixture of Module 1, 2, and 3 students, I'm here looking down at a list of notes that I've jotted down and thought what better way to start than to blog this. Hopefully this will add clarity to my own thoughts and help anyone else reflect on the session.

MODULES

Module 1 is about establishing and reflecting. Ways of connecting, networking and where your practise is today.
Module 2 is finding an area that you are interested in, curious for and have questions about.
Module 3 is undertaking a research project.

What is "your practise"?

What do you engage with? Your practise is you as a practitioner.

SUPPORT

1. UNI HUB: for information/ handbooks/ library resources/ systems of support
2. SUPERVISOR: for critical questions/ discuss ideas/ steer and guide/ send draft too for feedback/ encourage discussions
3. COMMUNITY: Skype sessions/ blogs/ a safe space to air thoughts on your; findings, handbook points and what you're experiencing in your practice/ facebook BAPP group

TIPS FROM MODULE 2 AND 3 STUDENTS

Having the opportunity to hear from those who have already completed module 1 and scribble down their tips and advice was SO helpful and time well spent, thank you! I think I will most likely find myself coming back and reflecting upon these points throughout the course.

  • The importance of reading and re reading the handbooks, highlighting key features and points.
  • Attend as many Skype discussions as you can to engage in discussions and spark conversations.
  • IT GETS EASIER
  • There are no definite answers, trust your instinct.
  • Blogs are here to ask questions, don't be afraid to be ambiguous as other students can expand and elaborate.
  • Engage in something that you are interested in and want to explore further, something you aren't 100% sure on to gain a better understanding.
After leaving this call I found myself thinking, what now?
PLAN OF ACTION
I'm going to schedule time for re-reading the module 1 handbook, delving into the Core text (KORTEXT) on the Reading List on Uni Hub and explore another recommended book on the list. I have noted that our next group session is on Wednesday the 17th of February at the choice of 8.15am or 9.00pm for all modules (remembering to comment on Adesola's blog once posted to book place on the call).

Quoted, Helen

"this course will help you grow in your practise and develop critical thinking"

I'm going to take this away with me as a motivator for the course. Excited to grow as a
practitioner/ performer and student.

Another blog done! Looking forward to reading all yours, Ellie

  1. Hi Ellie,
Thank you for summarising the meeting yesterday. It was so great to talk to you and the rest of the BA PP community. I can't wait to hear about your ideas as the course continues and learn more about your own practice.
Love your plan of action! I will be doing the same over the coming weeks. Let me know what books you find interesting/helpful on the reading list. I am about to start on 'The reflective practitioner'.
