MODULE 1 ZOOM 22/02/21
So nice to see and re-connect with everyone on Module 1 this evening. It was really interesting to hear about all your practises and really made me think deeper into my own.
Helen reminded us all that unpicking our practise is a process and our practise is not a definitive thing.
Disciple= dance, acting, singing, music
Practise= in a broader context
I think being put on the spot and having to articulate my practise suddenly there and then was initially daunting, but has definitely helped me. After focusing my research on different theories in the lens' during the past few weeks it was helpful to be brought back to the pinnacle question of 'What is my practise?' Im going to explore these further:
- The transition of Dancer to Dance Captain (what skills, knowledge and personality traits make up that transition)
- How I am networking with creatives I aspire to work with
Helen reminded us all that unpicking our practise is a process and our practise is not a definitive thing.
We discussed the idea that as performers we seem to have the 'Interpersonal' Multiple Intelligence (Gardner, H.). Sally brought to light that having this skill set is a fantastic asset as we know how to be a successful team player and how to draw a co-worker in if they seem to be disengaged/ not connected to the discussion. Our Interpersonal intelligence could reflect back to our training on being educated in professional etiquette and implementing this. Also that having personal skills gives you that extra spark long lasting career. I know that personally by respecting the light technician during rehearsals and shows, I have been repaid with respect by by him lighting the stage professionally for me to film choreography during our personal time. Actions impact others. - An ethical consideration to think on.
Your practise is not defined by a negative experience.. Unpick it.
A tip I'm about to take away is when starting to think about your Areas Of Learning firstly try to think about a memory that made you feel a certain way and why you felt that way?
There is no separate you.
You have a professional AND a personal life. How do they interlink in your practise and perhaps compliment one another?
An analogy Helen used to describe us on Module 1 was that we are all chefs, we've been given the same ingredients yet we all have to make something different. It is what you do with the ingredients. I feel like all my ingredients are cooking & simmering and the pages in Joe Wick's recipe book are turning and turning but I'm still yet to decide what dish I'm making. This reminded me of the rustle up challenge in Celebrity Best Home Cook!
Moving forward:
- At this stage, we are making lots of NOTES
- Mid term- pull together your notes then map connections
- Draft 12th April, acknowledge that its a draft
- Read, Watch, Listen, BLOG
- Use your blogs as writing
- Blog ideas on AOL
I'm going to focus on mind mapping my practise again and unpicking areas which could potentially be used as my three AOL's.

This is great Ellie! It was soo good to connect with all the module 1’s today and realise that we are in this together. It’s all a new experience and I’m sure we will all discover so much.

Thank you Lucy!
ReplyDeleteIt was, wasn't it. Yes I'm so curious as to where this reflection will take me and what 3 areas of learning I will decide to explore further!
Look forward to reading your blogs.

This is a really helpful summary of what we discussed. I love how you’ve put into words the personal and professional mix. The conversation also made me think back to memories and why I have these particular passions/beliefs/interests. So much to unravel!
ReplyDeleteThere is so much to unravel isn't there. Establishing that there is no separate you and that your personal and professional lives are one really resonated with me, rather than separating the two we could perhaps link with our transferable skills.

Hi Ellie,
ReplyDeleteI really appreciated this blog- you've not only summarised what we discussed but I found it really interesting to hear about your personal experiences and the ways you can apply what we discussed to your own practice.

Hi Ellie, love reading your blogs. Thank you for summarising this call and you've mentioned things that I didn't necessarily take notes on so that's really helpful. I think interpersonal skills are vital and always something I'm looking to improve on. Look forward to reading more of your blogs! (Also wasn't Celebrity Best Home Cook brilliant!!) x
ReplyDeleteHi Niamh,
DeleteThank you! I agree, interpersonal skills are so important and throughout our practise they seem to grow more and more!
Celebrity Best Home Cook has been my favourite series this year!
I look forward to reading your next blog.

Hi Ellie,
ReplyDeleteGreat blog! I'm just about summoning the courage to write a post and seeing yours has really helped articulate ideas. Like Niamh said, it's super interesting to see what different things each of us picked up from the discussion. Definitely a clear example of collective intelligence!
