ACADEMIC WRITING GROUP CALL
Today I attended the Zoom session focusing on Academic Writing.
Thank you to all of the tutors whom organised this call as it was an interesting discussion on reading literature.
Peter posed the question; Why do we write?
I have noted some of the responses and ideas:
Sam:
- to see someone else's experience
- to reflect on our practice
- to develop and take ideas further
Peter:
- to make our own sense of things
Helen
- as a creative process
We examined a document which explored a Reading Technique called (SQ3R)
Survey, Question, Read, Recite and Review.
We discussed the notion of a Topic Sentence. The first sentence of a paragraph which may indicate and summarise what that forthcoming paragraph might be about.
Finally I noted a reminder from Helen that whilst we are writing in first person to use this as a reflective voice and framework for our writing.
I ordered a book called 'Me 2.0, Build a Powerful Brand to Achieve Career Success' by Dan Schawbel, it's just arrived so my aim is to start this today and try to use some of the Reading Techniques that were discussed.
