INTERVIEW QUESTIONS

I have begun my interviews with my participants, overall I feel that these have gone well, my confidence as a researcher is growing and I am looking forward to my next ones.

On reflection, I realise that my interviews have been shorter than anticipated. After speaking with Helen, we discussed perhaps changing the question structure and making my questions more open.

Rather than:

What and Why which may initiate a more direct answer I intend to change my questions to more:

Could you talk about..

How does..

Are you aware of..

I will mention this moment of reflection and recognition in my report and will consider whether this encouraged a longer discussion with my participants. If anybody else has found this during their process I'd be really interested to hear your experiences.

I am about to start transcribing my first few interviews. I intend to make notes of important themes and considerations which will be valuable for when I start triangulating my data. I also intend to read much more literature on Analysis.

Any literature recommendations would be appreciated, thanks!

  1. Hi Ellie,

Really glad I came across your blog today! I am about to start my interview process and have found myself spending lots of time worrying about the way questions are worded and if they will come across open enough! I am hoping to blog my interview experience later in the week so I will let you know how I get on!
